ERS Railways B.V. is a railway transport company headquartered in Rotterdam, providing cargo transport, mostly ISO shipping containers.
Since 2002 a subsidiary company ERS Railways (or ERS) has been the rail provider for the organisation; the company started operating in the Netherlands in 2001 and holds a EU license to operate trains in other EU states.

The European Rail Shuttle B.V. was founded in 1994 as a joint venture between Sealand Service, P & O Containers and Royal Nedloyd, later Maersk joined the venture. Initial trains ran from Rotterdam to Germersheim and Melzo (Milan).[1]
The company boxXpress.de GmbH was founded 2000 by shareholding partnership with Eurogate[2][3] and TX Logistik AG[4] specifically for intermodal services to the German hinterland.[5]
In 2002 the full subsidiary ERS Railways was founded, which acts as a 'traction provider' employing drivers, and supplying rolling stock.
In 2006 the company became a fully owned subsidiary of A. P. Moller-Maersk Group.[1]
The company's main line of business is the transportation of ISO containers by rail from the Port of Rotterdam to various locations in Europe; including Germany, the Benelux countries, Italy and Central European states[6]
Much of the company's business has come from its shipping shareholders, but the company has also offered its services to third parties from its inception.
ERS Railways is headquartered in Rotterdam (Netherlands).
Starting from 7 trains a week (~ 22.000 TEU) in 1994 the company grew to 363,000 TEU in 2002 and then 494,000 TEU in 2004. (~280 trains per week by the mid 2000s)[1]
The subsidiary ERS Railways has made substantial use of hired EMD Class 66 as a source of traction, hiring from CB Rail, HSBC Rail and MRCE,[7] ERS has its own livery - half blue and half silver, divided longitudinally with curved bands.
Additionally MaK/Vossloh locomotives have also been used, including the Vossloh G 2000[8] and Vossloh G 1206[9] The company also has a fleet of Siemens EuroSprinter freight version multivoltage electric locomotives (Siemens ES64F4).[10] Additionally over 1000 container wagogns are operated.
Approximately half of ERS Railway's staff are train drivers.
